Cost and Turnaround

Price includes in-gel digestion of gel band or spot, nanospray LC/MS/MS analysis, protein identification from a search against the NCBI nonredundant database, and a report emailed to you as a Adobe Acrobat (pdf) file. Prices do not include running (separating) your sample on a gel or excision of gel band or spots (please contact us if you need this done). Contact us by email or phone before submitting solution samples.

In-gel digestions, nanospray LC/MS/MS, and protein identification:

Number of samples Cost
1-4 $250 per spot or band
5-10 $185 per spot or band
11-20 $165 per spot or band
21-40 $150 per spot or band
>41 $125 per spot or band
Cost above is reduced 20% for internal users.

Nanospray LC/MS/MS and protein identification only
(you have already digested your samples*):

Number of samples Cost
1-10 $150/sample
11-20 $125/sample
21-50 $100/sample
>50 $85/sample
*Please note that we typically have better protein identification results when we do the digestion here in our lab, as we have special enzymes, hoods to minimize keratin contamination, etc.

Note that the typical 1 week turnaround on protein identifications may not always be possible for 20 or more samples.

Phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and other posttranslational modification analysis:

$1500 per sample, per protein, per posttranslational modification. Includes:
  • Optimized in-gel or in-solution digestion with up to two enzymes
  • A report detailing purity of sample (to check if your protein of interest is the major protein in the sample)
  • A report from the initial screen for the posttranslational modification
  • Manual confirmation of up to 4 sites of posttranslational modification on the protein of interest
  • A final report with publication-quality results (includes up to two annotated MS/MS spectra from the observed phosphorylation sites, this is sometime requested by paper reviewers).

If you know the sequence of your protein, please send the sequence before sending any samples so we can evaluate the sequence and choose the optimum enzyme combination. Protein sequences can be sent to us by email.

MudPIT or multi-dimensional LC/MS/MS analysis:

$1800 per sample, includes:
  • 6 to 12 salt elution steps for strong cation exchange (SCX) separation and same number of reverse phase separations (LC/MS/MS)
  • a report in pdf format listing all proteins identified from the entire MudPIT analysis

Other changes:

  • ZipTip sample cleanup: $50/sample
  • Extra report charge: $100/report
  • Data analysis charge: $200/hour
(for extra time required for data analysis beyond what is normally required)
